Science Scholars Program

The Science Scholar Program at Saint Paul College supports high-achieving students with demonstrated financial need as they pursue degrees in science, technology, engineering, and related fields. The program provides both financial support and a community of faculty and fellow students to help scholars successfully complete their degrees.

Scholarship Award

Selected Science Scholars may receive up to $16,000 over as many as eight semesters, including summer semesters, based on enrollment:

• $3,750 per semester for enrollment in 12 or more credits
• $2,500 per semester for enrollment in 6–11 credits
• $2,500 for summer enrollment in 6–11 credits
• $1,250 for summer enrollment in 3–5 credits

This scholarship is funded by a National Science Foundation (NSF) S-STEM grant. The S-STEM program aims to increase science degree completion among low-income, high-achieving undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need.

Please note: Continuation of scholarship funding depends on the availability of federal grant funds. While the current grant is expected to continue through Fall 2027, funding beyond that date cannot be guaranteed.

More Than a Scholarship

In addition to financial support, Science Scholars participate in relationship-building and co-curricular activities designed to support academic success and help students build connections within the sciences. Opportunities include:

Eligibility

To qualify for the Science Scholar Program Scholarship, students must:

• Be registered for at least six credits at Saint Paul College;
• Demonstrate high potential for academic success;
• Demonstrate financial need, based on the scholarship application and/or eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant or Minnesota State Grant;
• Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or asylee;
• Be enrolled in one of the following eligible programs:
  Science and Engineering Technology A.S.
  Biology Transfer Pathway A.S.
  Chemistry Transfer Pathway A.S.
  Engineering Broad Field A.S.; and
• Register for coursework related to their eligible major.

Scholarship Renewal

The scholarship automatically renews as long as the student continues to meet program requirements and grant funding remains available.

To maintain eligibility, Science Scholars must:

• Enroll in at least six credits each semester;
• Take at least one course related to their eligible major each semester;
• Remain enrolled in one of the four eligible programs; and
• Participate in required mentoring and designated co-curricular activities.

Selection

Eligible applicants will be selected based on:

• Scholarship impact and financial need, as demonstrated through the application and/or FAFSA information;
• Interest in science, as demonstrated through the student’s major and/or application response; and
• Academic potential, as demonstrated through previous GPA and/or the application response.
