Nora Galvin Memorial Healthcare Scholarship

The Nora Galvin Health Education Scholarship was established by her wife, Jeani Pearson, after Nora’s 2022 death from chronic lymphocytic leukemia. During her illness, Nora came to greatly respect the compassion shown her by the medical professionals she encountered. That is why this scholarship is focused on the practical nursing discipline. Nora will be remembered for her creativity and wit. She was the fun aunt, teaching her nieces and nephews to eat candy for dinner and jump on beds, earning her the nickname “Aunt No-No”. She will be fondly recalled for her chef skills which created myriad holiday feasts. Anything from prime rib to citrus brined smoked salmon, Nora was always able to create a fantastic meal. Nora’s generosity and kindness were well known to all who knew her. She was continually the first to pop up to help when someone struggled with a package or a heavy door. Nora loved to travel and learn about different cultures. She visited countless state parks, attended three different Olympic games, and visited cities from the west to east coasts, the Caribbean Islands to the northern U.S. Her retirement dreams included a driving tour of the east coast from Niagara Falls to Key West. Nora valued education and lifelong learning. This scholarship for the Practical Nursing Program is a tribute to Nora’s kindness and love of learning as well as her belief that everyone deserves a helping hand once in a while.

This scholarship supports a student in the Practical Nursing program. The student will be in good academic standing and making sufficient academic progress toward their program completion.
