Matthew Koch Memorial Culinary Arts Scholarship

Matthew Koch was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and his life ended suddenly on December 13, 2021, at the very young age of 27. Matthew left behind two sisters, his parents, his fiancée, countless friends, and his beloved golden retriever Mose. Matthew achieved a degree in International Business and Marketing from The University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. He loved his work in sales at SPS Commerce, but Matthew also had a love affair with culinary arts and mixology.

Growing up, Matthew watched many of the major food shows on cable TV. He spent thousands of hours watching these shows, researching recipes, and preparing great food. Matthew did not formally study culinary arts, but he did in his own way. He was a great chef, he loved to cook, and he explored and experimented with seasonings, ingredients, and various ways to prepare great food. Matthew rarely ate without talking about the flavors and presentation of the meal.

Matthew also believed in helping others in this world. His life was impacted through adoption, and he was blessed with a kind heart, and he gave everyone wonderful, loving bear hugs

This scholarship supports a third-semester student in the Culinary Arts Program, with demonstrated financial need and demonstrated commitment to a career in the culinary arts.
