Eberhard Werthman Culinary Arts Scholarship

Eberhart Werthmann was born in Munningen, Germany, on September 6th, 1935. As a young man, he began his culinary career apprenticing throughout Europe in distinguished hotels and restaurants, eventually becoming an Executive Chef. In 1963, Sheraton International brought him to open hotels in New York, Jamaica, and the Sheraton Ritz Hotel in Minneapolis, where he met his wife Kathleen (“Tookie”), the beginning of their amazing lifelong love. In 1966, Eberhard joined St. Paul College to lead its new Culinary Arts Program, where he taught thousands of students over 32 years. He brought his amazing culinary knowledge and skills and made a substantial impact on the success of his students, his colleagues, the hospitality industry, and the entire community. Through Eberhard’s initiative, the Culinary Arts Program at Saint Paul College is the only accredited program of the National American Federation of Culinary Arts in our five-state area. Eberhard’s teaching goal was to instill the finest culinary knowledge and ability in his students for their lifelong success and enable them to reach their fullest potential. He also added many dashes of humor and life lessons in mentoring his students. Eberhard’s Culinary Scholarship Fund is devoted to sustain and continue those goals and ideals.
